For the MGK (@machinegunkelly) concert, I ditched the perfectly glam curls for something a little more effortless.
I wanted that textured, lived-in look, and I’m going to break down exactly how I achieved it.
Step 1: Prep and Prime
Every good hairstyle starts with a solid foundation on freshly washed hair. To get the perfect texture without losing volume, I always start with a few essentials:
Leave-in treatment for hydration and heat protectant and then volumizing and thickening sprays sprayed all over to give it that extra umph.
Once the products are in, give your hair a good rough dry with your blow dryer.
Step 2: I know two different irons for the waves seems like a lot but it actually just saves me time to get the look I want with the amount of hair I have.
The Three-Barrel Waver: Section off your hair, leaving out the very top layer. Take your three-barrel waver and crimp everything underneath. This builds an amazing, voluminous base of deep waves.
Next the 1-Inch Waver. For that top layer, swap to a traditional curling wand (I use my trusty 1-inch beach waver). Wrap sections around the barrel but leave the ends out. Leaving the last inch or two straight is the absolute key to that effortless, undone look.
Pro Tip: Don’t be afraid to rock out a little bit while styling. A full-blown, one-person concert and some serious head-shaking genuinely helps break up the curls and adds to the vibe!
Step 3: The Finishing Touches
To lock everything in and give it that final edgy texture, finish with a little bit of hair oil on the ends to keep them looking healthy. Then, grab a generous amount of hairspray to texturize and lock the style in place. I always layer my scents and it starts with the hair, so hair and mist for the locks is a must!
